San Sicario in Italy (in the Piemonte region) is a large resort with 11 lifts (3 chair lifts, 8 surface lifts) that offers skiers an incredible 1473 metres (4833 feet) of vertical descent. San Sicario has 39 pistes with a total length of 88 kilometers (55 miles). San Sicario is best suited to beginner skiers and snowboarders but there is some terrain for both expert and intermediates. There are 7 kilometers (4.4 miles) of cross country ski trails at San Sicario. All of the pistes at San Sicario are covered by snowmaking. The closest airport is at Turin but the transfer time is 1.5 hours. The nearest train station to San Sicario is at Oulx. There is accommodation located close to the pistes but we would welcome additional information about any hotels or chalets in San Sicario.

Went to San Sicario over New Year 2009.
It is very much a purpose built resort. There is no village and all the apres-ski activity centres around the hotels. The resort at San Sicario caters for Italians and the ski school could only offer one instructor for English lessons. This made teaching a spectrum of abilities very difficult. Skiing is very good - can connect into the Milky Way with lots more skiing than you can shake a ski at. The slopes are well tended and lifts etc well maintained. We stopped at Hotel Majestic. It lacked character somehow. Wouldn't go again - back to Austria with a proper village scene.
